The Confessions Of A Shopaholic CD Post.

Things to do music-wise, one: Replace defective cassettes (so if anyone has any spare copies of Carl Davis' Napoleon on CD floating about...)

Things to do music-wise, two: Apologise to everyone who downloads. Having been led after Googling the now ex-Cheetah Girl Adrienne Bailon to the preview Amazon page for Confessions Of A Shopaholic's Hollywood CD, and been less than thrilled with the stuff I had to go through to get to the last track...

1. Accessory - Jordyn Taylor (3:04)

3. Blue Jeans - Jessie James (3:54)
4. Uncontrollable - Adrienne Bailon (3:28)
5. Calling You - Kat DeLuna (4:34)
6. Stuck With Each Other - Akon (3:18)
7. Unstoppable - Kat DeLuna (6:14)
8. Big Spender - Adrienne Bailon (5:40)

...I may just have to buy it separately. Wait, you can't? Sod. Ah well, it's amazing he's there anyway (the movie's from Jerry Bruckheimer)...

UPDATE: After seeing the trailer for the movie before both Vicky Cristina Barcelona and High School Musical 3: Senior Year, I may just go and see the thing as well. It made me laugh, and Isla Fisher is, well, you know...

The I Was Folding And Commuting, That's Where I Was Post.

When President-elect Obama became "just" "plain" President Obama, I wasn't watching. Because I was finishing off work and heading home, not because I wouldn't have been tuning in the way Sharon (who rushed home to take it in on CNN) did. The fact that I couldn't go through the warehouse without being "treated" to right-leaning yak radio station talkSPORT (which, being in bed with Rupert Murdoch, has always been not exactly pro-the man who copyrighted the phrase "Yes we can") certainly didn't help - what's Obama accomplished they ask? Well, for a start he hasn't been a codeword for asshattery like the predecessor.

But forget them, and forget the kind of political discussion in the letters pages of the likes of thelondonpaper. (As Sharon pointed out, during our own lifetimes you couldn't have gotten racially-mixed casts on South African TV shows of the past the way you can on current ones like Isidingo and Generations.) Focus on the millions thrilled,
and not only in the US or Kenya. Focus on his packing more inspiration and intelligence in one minute than his predecessor managed in eight (and arguably more than 60) years. Focus on real hope. And focus on... positivity. After eight long, long years, the mood's finally gotten to change. And that's no bad thing.

The Technical Term: "RESULT!" Post.

I know today isn't technically speaking their day, but come on. If their fellow supporter (aka the woman pictured over yonder) of the biggest O since Roy Orbison had been there as well, it would have been the Best Picture Ever.

(EDIT: "Actually, it's get the FUCK out of the way." - Butch.)

I stand corrected.

The What's Wrong With This Picture? Post.

1983: Maggie Grace is born.

2004: She plays a teenage TV star with a bad reputation on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

2004: She starts playing, with all due respect to Elizabeth Mitchell and Yun-jin Kim, the foxiest character ever to appear on Lost (until that cow played by Michelle Rodriguez offs her, but that's another story).

2008: She plays Liam Neeson's 17-year-old daughter in Taken.

As she has the video spot this week it's clearly not her fault (and she has played age-appropriate - see The Jane Austen Book Club and the remake of The Fog). But are some casting directors high?

The Four Points About The Golden Globes Post.

1. They aren't the Oscars. In any sense. And that wasn't intended as praise. (And I do not care about how many fucking Brits win - mental note: avoid the UK media because they'll be drenched with flag-waving reports about the wins.)

2. Except when they cut back to Sky's studio coverage. Then they're just as good at making me reach for the mute button or flicking over to Quincy, M.E. on ITV3+1 instead.

3. I'm still waiting for Blake Lively to show up (I can't summon up enthusiasm for Slumdog Millionaire as yet).

4. Thanks for most of the other foxy presenters though (particularly my girl Hayden and Salma Hayek).

EDIT: Just after posting this, Blake finally came on. I can stop watching now... Joke. Or is it?

The You Have To Admit It Did Sound Like A Mom Thing Post.

Quoth MTV:

Much like Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato before her, Cindy Crawford wants everyone to know that she has no beef with Hannah Montana, or, for that matter, with the show's star Miley Cyrus, despite what you may have read online.

Early Tuesday morning, several Web sites
(and blogs! - Me) published a quote in which Crawford allegedly told the press that she didn't allow her daughter, Kaia Jordan Gerber, 7, to watch the widely popular Disney series, because it taught her to be "sassy."

"I love Hannah Montana, but [my daughter] learns to be sassy from that show," she was quoted as saying in a story posted on AceShowbiz.com and other sites. "I'll say to her, 'I don't let anyone talk to me like that. I'll certainly not take it from a 7-year-old in my own house.'"

When reached for comment, Crawford's rep told MTV News that the statement was untrue and that Crawford has no issue with the show.

"I don't know where this quote came from. It doesn't sound like Cindy," the rep said. "I just spoke to Cindy, and she said that she is a fan of Hannah Montana, and she has taken her daughter to multiple shows."

With that out of the way, maybe the Crawford clan will be rooting for Cyrus this Sunday, when the 16-year-old is up for a Golden Globe for her Bolt song "I Thought I Lost You."

And if Cindy and Kaia really are fans, they'll get to enjoy more Hannah Montana in 2009, both on the small and big screens, and more Miley, as young star starts to expand into other movie roles. No word yet on how many of those will be sassy.

I'm certainly rooting for Miley this Sunday night/Monday morning (and looking forward to the red carpet show, which unlike the Globes themselves [so far as I know] is definitely on in the UK - come on, Blake Lively and Hayden Panettiere presenting? How could I miss it?). Note to press outlets: it's Kaia, not (as it was in the piece above until I changed it) Kaya...

The Mix It All Together And You Know You Got The Worst Of Both Worlds Post.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford has banned her young daughter from watching Miley Cyrus' hit TV show Hannah Montana, because it teaches her to talk back. The star claims seven-year-old Kaia became rude and cocky after watching the teen hit - about a schoolgirl with a secret life as a pop star. Crawford says, "I love Hannah Montana, but she (daughter) learns to be sassy from that show. I'll say to her, 'I don't let anyone talk to me like that. I'll certainly not take it from a seven year old in my own house.'"

If there was ever any doubt about Cindy being a mummy you can imagine your own mum being like (as opposed to, say, Madonna), it's gone now. That said, if Kaia modelled herself after London "Yay me!" Tipton from The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody/On Deck, then an intervention might be called for.

The Stress-Relieving Post.

As a rule I avoid New Year's resolutions because they're just too hard to stick to... why make promises if you can't keep them? That said, one thing I decided to do was simply drop anything that was grating on my nerves, even if it's something I previously liked. Call it scales falling from eyes or what have you. So if Rob from The Medium Is Not Enough is reading this (and I'm going to put it as a label to increase the chances of that happening), I'm afraid his blog just joined The Playlist, on205th and US TV On UK TV in the Those We Have Loved And Lost: Deleted Links Division file.

The constant bigging-up of Ali "Worst thing about Heroes and I wish they'd kill off her character for good" Larter is tedious, but I can live with it. But dissing Hayden Panettiere is another matter altogether and one I cannot forgive, Rob. Tara, it's been great...
