The No Resolutions Post.

Ta-ra, 2010. Welcome, 2011. And I hope I can do better.

I hope I can manage to set the wheels of moving in motion and therefore get more space for my sister and myself. I hope I find out for sure whether or not the (non-fatal) condition I might have is what I think it is. I hope my finances can be more settled down. I hope I write more.

And above all, I hope I can be happier.

The Third One Post.

Peter Graves, Barbara Billingsley, and now Leslie Nielsen.

Not a way fans of Airplane! want to commemorate its 30th anniversary.

The Further Adventures Of The Our Little Bit Of Score Post.

It seems to be a tradition around these parts... Thanks again to Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira, for the name of this, which I think I can leave the explanation of out. If you see what I mean. New additions this list are in bold.

The ground rules:

1. Albums are listed for the most part in alphabetical order, except for sequels (if they start with the same sequence of words) and albums from the same TV show, and if the title of the movie itself is preceded by "Music From And Inspired By" or some such rider.

2. For reasons of bragging, albums that were taped off the original LP or CD are included but are asterisked; albums that were taped off but not completely aren't included, so no SpaceCamp (taped for me without the "Training Montage" cue). Even though it's all over the place I'm leaving the SCSE release of Krull on, but the SCSE release is now supplanted by the La-La Land release, so I don't need to get a replacement.

3. The score running time when included indicates the amount of score if three or more songs are on the album (unless all the original songs and score are by the same composer, a la Mike Batt and Alan Menken).

4. The ones that I left in Barbados and therefore presumably with my mum are still included in the total - Zeta may be in Luxembourg but she's still my sister! Ones that are damaged and thus unplayable are given the (damaged - replacement) rider, unless I also have any expanded editions. Also, the movies and TV shows are listed here under their original titles, not the title on the album (so all the foreign-language things will be under their names at home, all the American ones under their US titles, all the British ones under their UK titles and so on - e.g. it's Santa Barbara, not California Clan).

5. Non-soundtrack works by people best known for screen music are included under the SMALL SCREEN umbrella, ditto the videogame scores.

6. If a title has (MGM) next to it, it indicates it's part of FSM's twelve-disc box set The MGM Soundtrack Treasury.

7. Finally, movies made for DVD still count as movies, and hence are included under BIG SCREEN. (CD singles aren't included, for the most part.)

Special thanks to my family, Matthew Florianz, the Goldsmith Film Music Society, Film Score Monthly, all the great soundtrack labels out there, Gerry Kroll, eBay, and all the composers who delight me. No thanks to the previous owner of the copy of Screen Themes which I originally had, who thought it would be a great idea to tape over it with the German dub of an episode of Heidi...

The Another One... Doesn't Bite The Dust, Really Post.

Rosanna Arquette, Cindy Crawford, Laetitia Casta, Britney Spears, Jessica Alba, Monica Bellucci... and now Mariah Carey's finally become pregnant, another one joins the yummy mummy (or to use Cindy's preferred term MILF) club. You know you're getting older when all your favourite women become mothers (although some of them do so earlier than others, Britney and Laetitia in particular - Miss Casta is 32 and already has three kids!).

Of course, some fans have yet to experience this (Helen Mirren has no children, which may explain a lot) while others are completely used to it. Although that doesn't mean I won't be surprised when/if Hilary Duff or Hayden Panettiere announces an upcoming blessed event.

Congratulations to Mariah! (I refuse to congratulate Nick Cannon, because a) he's not the one who'll have to go through excruciating pain several months from now and b) frankly, I'm jealous.)

The Never Enough Cindy Post.

Do any of Presley's or Kaia's classmates (or teachers) have a crush on their friend's/pupil's mum? You just know some of them do; the odds demand it. As do sense. Here she is on the cover of India Vogue, working it as fantastically as ever.

The Aw, Crap Post.

Stephen J. Cannell left us at 69. Melanoma complications, it seems... and it might be kind of timely that it happened the same year as the not universally well-received film of The A-Team, which at the time of writing I still haven't seen. (What he thought of it, I have no idea.)

Honestly, this is a bummer... once again, I find myself not really knowing what to say. So, I'll just say "thanks." Thanks for The A-Team, and The Rockford Files, and Riptide, and Wiseguy, and Profit, and Renegade, and Top Of The Hill, and...

Just - thanks, Stephen. You'll be missed.

The iHave A Question About This Crossover Post.

Reasons why I've always preferred American TV to the British variety, #495: Crossovers. Over here a rare breed, but over there comparatively common down the years.

What this is building up to is that Nickelodeon is going to have a crossover betweeen iCarly and Victorious, which makes sense in a variety of ways (they're Nick's two most popular shows, they're both shepherded by Dennis Blunden - er, I mean Dan Schneider... can I help it if I'll never be able to forget seeing the cleanshaven Chris Moyles lookalike back when he was on Head Of The Class? - and even though Miranda Cosgrove and Victoria Justice appeal to basically the same audience, there are still people who prefer one over the other). One problem though: geography can be sorted out (iCarly is set in Seattle, Victorious in Hollywood)... but how are they going to get past the fact that Tori Vega looks exactly, but exactly, like Shelby Marx? And will they take advantage of people enjoying Miranda, Victoria and Jennette McCurdy for... other reasons? (None of them are devoid of talent, but let's face it they ain't ugly.)

The I Found Another One Post.

"Victor, do you like film music?"

Came right out of the blue at work on Thursday, from David in the laser room (where all the jobs are printed off to be processed and sent out - that's not important right now). Whenever any possible work discussions of one of my few real interests have come about point-missing is usually the name of the game - I still have unfond memories of getting a Kodak-sponsored CD of music from movies and finding it was all songs - but for the next few minutes David and I stood there in the doorway, shooting the you-know-what about his favourites (John Barry, Ennio Morricone), mine (Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard), learning that he's got lots of vinyl but hasn't been getting much new stuff of late, telling him that I got Rachel Portman's autograph, commisserating about likely not being able to attend next month's
Concert For Care, and so on.

That kind of talk probably befuddled poor Bianca if she was listening (and as she was right next to us she likely couldn't help it), but encountering people who share this interest offline and in your work environment is never a bad thing. (And he's right, you'd think Disney would have released Toy Story 3 physically - surely there'd be a market for an album to the year's most successful movie...)

The Actually, GMTV, It Wasn't A Shock Modern Family Won Post.

Because though I'm decidedly pro-Glee for reasons beyond having disgusting thoughts about Lea Michele, Modern Family is fantastic and richly deserved its Emmys last night. (The GMTV bloke was probably surprised because unlike Glee, Modern Family isn't shown on free-to-air TV in the UK and therefore isn't as widely known as the New Directions group.) That said, I'm less delighted about Edie Falco getting another Emmy (and not at all delighted about Wizards of Waverly Place beating Hannah Montana and iCarly. Again) than in Anne Hathaway getting her first... and hey, Claire Danes finally got the Emmy she didn't get for My So-Called Life! But I still say Bear McCreary's Human Target theme was robbed.
