This series of posts has a problem, in that I'm restricted to only including music that's been commercially released... which is really annoying in the case of the wondrous Jessica Alba. It means that the terrific themes from the '90s Flipper (there were two) are off-limits, as are David Newman's score for Never Been Kissed, Joel McNeely's work on Dark Angel (although the opening ditty gets a look-in, even if the only episode of either season to give it a respectable airing is "Love Among The Runes") and - less regrettably, it has to be said - anything from Robert Rodriguez's Machete. But do not think the Alba's most frequent collaborator will go unrepresented...

Since Scarlett Johansson is the oldest of the women in this series so far at the ripe old age of 27, and since many of her movies (the gorgeous, pouting Scarlett rarely does scripted television with the exception of her Robot Chicken appearances - and the pilot for the TV version of The Client) have had soundtrack releases, we've got the longest disc so far. Not included in this lineup: North, Home Alone 3 or My Brother The Pig (thus preventing the inclusion of a pre-Lost Michael Giacchino). Also not included is David Julyan's The Prestige (because it's boring), or any of her Woody Allen films (especially Match Point - I resent films where hotties I like get killed) as he hardly ever goes for original scoring. Given that the production the yummy, leggy Blake is best known for is a TV show, perhaps a renaming of this series is in order. Anyway, not included on this... well... EP is anything from Accepted, Simon Says or Hick. (Or Savages, even though there is a soundtrack available - just no sound clips at the time of writing.) Also not included - "Carol Scolds Hal" from Green Lantern, because I wanted something a bit more uptempo after the previous tracks.

The Music From The Films Of Hayden Panettiere Post.

There are two things that I like; film soundtracks and attractive celebrity women. Finally, something that combines the two. Kicking off this series of posts is one for one of the two women this blog's named for - and since Cindy Crawford has hardly any screen scripted work to her name (and no related soundtracks, unless La-La Land has released Mark Mancina's Fair Game without announcing it), that means Hayden Panettiere.

Not included: songs licensed for inclusion in any of her films (or TV shows), although we'll make an exception for one artist. Also not included: David Newman's The Affair Of The Necklace because she only appears in the prologue as the young Hilary Swank (which is weird considering how they look now, but anyway), or any others - like Message In A Bottle - where she isn't a main character. (Exception: the track from Dinosaur, because it's too darn good.) I'm also not including anything from Marco Beltrami's Scream 4 (especially not "I Got It Right") because of the whole "stabbed and left for dead" thing... even though her character may not be gone, but anyway, it's not pleasant.

Okey-dokey, so we finally found out what's going to be on the Chop Shop/Atlantic CD for The Twilight Saga: New Moon. While I liked Twilight I didn't dash out to buy its CD (although I still want Carter Burwell's score album), and this new lineup is also about as appealing as Insert Unappealing Picture Blog Of Choice Here. The bloke from Radiohead? The band whose leader has had carnal knowledge of Edith Bowman? The Killers? (As Ryan Adams put it, "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, with the unfortunate exception of The Killers.") I can only hope Alexandre "When does the man sleep?" Desplat gets his own separate score disc.

The Play That Variety Of Music Multicoloured Boy Post.

A Rihanna tribute concert? Well, why not? Unsurprisingly she didn't dress like this for the occasion.

Anyway, moving on to the news I've been waiting for: it was only a matter of time before NBC Universal cleared the way for a Heroes soundtrack album, since practically every hit show these days has one (and sometimes more than one - Lost has two, Grey's Anatomy has three, The L Word has clocked up five). I'd have preferred a score album, but at least there's some. The CD, coming out in the US on March 18, looks like this:

Not all these tracks have been heard on the show, as show executive producer Allan Arkush admits - but as I've said before, given Noah Gray-Cabey's ivory-tickling abilities, Greg Grunberg being part of the Band From TV (as is Hugh Laurie, explaining their presence on the House, M.D. album) and the weakness both Hayden Panettiere and Kristen Bell have for bursting into song, you've got at least four shout-outs to fans they could have included right there (Panic! At The Disco? For fuck's sake). And it's not like Tim Kring wouldn't have had previous experience with including the stars on a soundtrack, what with Jill Hennessy being on the Crossing Jordan album. Still, I guess it could be worse; it could be dueSouth Vol. 2. (And if any fans know if the French release will contain the song that opens the TF1 airings, let me know.)

I'll leave you with a wagged finger at FHM and Arena for having Cheryl from Girls Aloud and Cat Deeley as their cover stars. This week's French Elle shows them both up with the stunning Emmanuelle Beart - more pictures, costs less and she's nude in one shot. Even if she has reportedly had work done, so what?

Coming to a CD collection near you

I'm only going to actually see one of these movies, but I do plan to get both of these albums.

It's a great relief that the CD doesn't seem to the R&B/rap-fest that was rumoured - considering the importance of underscore to The Simpsons, and with the relationship Hans Zimmer has with executive producer (and one-time guest voice) James L. Brooks, it's just as well. Kind of a shame that Alf Clausen didn't get to do the movie (Danny Elfman was never a plausible candidate, really), but what can you do? The work of Zimmer and his acolytes will be coming on Adrenaline next month.

I haven't seen any of the Harry Potter movies or read the books, but I do have all the soundtrack albums. Filling John Williams's shoes requires really big feet - let's hope this Nicholas Hooper fellow has them. Check out Soundtrack.net's First Listen to the CD.

Comic book buffs take note; Jessica Alba, unlike the Silver Surfer, is a real person. And unlike Spider-Man 3, this OST has no songs on it. Apparently.

Has it really been 22 years since The Goonies came out? (Well, give or take a few months.) There are still plenty of fans of the flick around, and their love extends to the music (if not Kerri "Andy, the girl who played the death organ and gave Sean Astin a little more of a 'happy' in the book of the film" Green, who seemed to fall off the face of the Earth after Three for the Road in 1987). Since the 18-minute rerecorded suite on the Cliffhangers album won't do, ditto (very much ditto) Dave Grusin's own performance of "Fratelli Chase" on the Cinemagic CD, fans are rallying to make a CD of his work on the movie - which Varese Sarabande's expressed an interest in - a reality; their petition is here, and I know these things almost never work, but if La-La Land can release score albums for Spaceballs and Tango & Cash then it can happen.

Feltz: LivingTV's unwillingness to show non-season one episodes of The Tyra Banks Show (we don't all watch her other show, you know). I need to have this episode, dammit!

Cindy: Deciding to go to the Ubeda Film Music Conference this summer (in July), also allowing me to get out of the country for a bit. I've never been to Spain, and it's also a chance to actually save some money for once.

Feltz of the Month: Anna Nicole Smith. And the revolting comments many have spewed forth as a result.

Bridge to Terabithia

Haven't heard of the book, but may check the movie out when it launches in the UK on May 4th; it certainly does sound above average, though the Fantasy Movie advertising doesn't seem like it'll help. The soundtrack is on Hollywood Records, and the House of Mouse actually seems to be releasing it on CD this time (as opposed to iTunes exclusives - Eight Below, The Guardian, The Santa Clause: The Escape Clause, Deja Vu). The sound clips of Aaron Zigman (The Notebook, John Q, Akeelah And The Bee)'s score are by no means bad, but I'm kind of wishing they could have dumped some of the songs and put in more of his work, especially since this is a "Music from and Inspired by" album - Hannah Montana and the cute-sexy indestructible cheerleader can stay, ditto Bethany Dillon, but I hatehateHATE Leigh Nash (Sixpence None The Richer are unforgivable). And I have a horrible feeling Miss Robb will be over the end credits instead of Miley 'n' Hayden on account of a) her being in the movie and b) the music video attached... proper score CD post anon.
